IT & Tech Careers.Once you've narrowed the file list with a course search method, you can deep-dive into the resulting list of files and look for exact string matches to the whole 500 text lines, thereby reducing the number of files on which you need to do the full search. If so, you might do this search in two stages: A first stage to simply isolate which files have matching patterns with regex pattern matching or any of the unique keywords (omitting stuff like "the", "and" and other noise words like that). I'm sure you're already filtering down to only those files you feel can contain the text you're looking for, but you may consider if the 500 lines of text you're searching for have keywords in common or patterns. This will really speed things up because you'll only need to open the file handle once instead of 500 different times. I suggest reversing the nesting of these loops so that you open one file and search for all 500 different strings within it. In the first example of PS above, Gungnir suggests looking through all the files for one of the 500 lines, then going on to the next. ![]() ![]() If you have to search a lot of files, you'll be looking at * and this could be a very slow and disk-intensive process.
